I have been to Chef Ming Tsai’s Blue Dragon a few times since it opened in February of 2013 and it quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The Asian Gastropub serving a tapas-style menu and craft cocktails is located at 324 A Street in Boston’s Fort Point Channel – a perfect addition to an ever-growing neighborhood which is being deemed “Restaurant Row”.
Chef Ming Tsai is already well known in Boston for his restaurant Blue Ginger in Wellesley, MA, his cooking show ‘Simply Ming‘, and for competing on the Food Network’s The Next Iron Chef. He is famous for his East-West cuisine and Feng Shui design concept in his restaurants which create a very welcoming and peaceful dining experience.
I definitely recommend starting out with a cocktail. All are hand crafted and use very unique and high-end ingredients. I got the Lemongrass Gimlet with vodka, cucumber and lime which was light and refreshing.
My friend Jaime got the Thai Basil Smash with rye, lemon, thai basil, and ginger beer. I took a sip and it was also very tasty!
Since the menu at Blue Dragon is made for sharing it is a great opportunity to try a wide variety of dishes. First up for us was the Braised Short Rib and Chinese Celery Potstickers which were seared with the most perfectly crispy bottom. They had a good amount of short rib and the texture of the wonton was absolute perfection.
Next was a menu item I get every single time I eat at Blue Dragon – the Shrimp Shumai. There is a sauce on the bottom of this dish that takes this to the next level. I could eat an entire order of these myself in one sitting!
One of the larger portions we had was the Pad Thai with Scallops and Bacon. I love a Pad Thai that has a sauce on it and this one hit the spot. I always squirt a little bit of lime on each bite to help enhances all the layers of this flavor packed dish.
I had never tried a fried oyster before so when Jaime suggested trying them I was game! I love oysters and fried ones were EVEN BETTER.
No meal at Blue Dragon is complete without ‘The Cookie’. I don’t care how full you are, I promise you will thank me.
Baked to order in a small cast iron skillet and topped with vanilla ice cream and soy caramel sauce you will eat up every last bite.

Take a look at the Blue Dragon menu because there are so many more options that what I showed here. Here are some of the other dishes I have tried that I would also recommend:
Pork and Scallion Wontons
Red Roast Pork Tail with Mango Sticky Rice
Thai Fried Rice with Confit Chicken
Dan Dan Noodles (spicy!!)
Blue Dragon does not take reservations. Luckily they have a very vibrant bar scene so pull up a stool, have a drink and enjoy! It’s 100% worth the wait for a table!!
